First production from DV1 2015-16 class

Friday, August 21, 2015

We just presented the first films from the new DV1 class.

Working on silent films helps students focus on acting, and scene framing, not relying so much on the dialogue to explain a situation or action.

Check out the results!

  1. I liked the story line in the Cretic Cards Movie, because it was unique and very different idea from what everyone else could have come up with. Maybe next time, make sure that in post production, the scenes have better transitions and are cut shorter (meaning that unecesarry length of a scene should be cut out). In my next assignment, I want to make sure that I can edit the movie, and scenes at the best of my abilities to make the transition well with blurs or early cuts, and have music that fits the moment. (I am new at editing a movie)

  2. I really liked the ending of the movie The Mysterious Murder. At the beginning we were expecting that the cop was going to catch the bad guys. But, then there was a turn of events and there was another person. I think that something that they could have worked better on and try to improve maybe next time is only film scenes that will fit into the movie. The guns in the movie were props that just did not need to be filmed. Something that I will improve on our next assignment is try to act better, because this time it can have dialogue. Also I will try to shoot only once the scene so it does not take all of our time.

  3. I really liked the movie "The Mysterious Murderer", it is nice to watch. If I could give the post productor a suggestion, it would be to make the sound of a scene transition better before going to another scene with another sound. I would suggest that because it happened to occur that in one scene it was an adventure sound then the other suddenly changed to a mystery sound without a very good transition. In my next movie project, I want to make sure that the scenes are better transitioned before it is shown to the class, and that was one of the critiques my group and I received.

  4. I really liked the movie The Phone Kleptomaniac. I thought that when Figo was expelled he didn't have any more phones, but then when he sits he starts taking out some phones form his pocket. I think this a very good idea because the audience thinks that it's game over to him. I also liked the transitions they chose because it fits the theme they chose. Something I really liked is when he is going to enter the car with the four phones but then it fades away. I think something they could improve on is taking out some dialogue because just by acting we can notice what the character is saying. Something I want to improve on is making the transitions better because when you see our movie there is no transition it goes from one scene to the other one right away. Something I want work on in this movie is to not move or shake the camera when we are filming the scenes. Since I am the camera man and I also want to help the post production so they can put transitions between one scene and another.

  5. Movie: The Mysterious Murderer
Something they did well: The ideas of all groups were really good
Something they could improve: Keep the camera steady. Act more normal in front of the camera. Be a little bit more realistic in the films.
Something I could improve for next time: Be more cooperative while we shoot the scenes.

  6. I really liked the movie The Phone Kleptomaniac. It was really interesting and the camera was right and everything was ok. I liked that it was in black and white and the music changing at the right time. The movie in total very really good and at the end that Figo was suspended and that he still has phones in his pocket. It was a great ending.

  7. I really liked "The Phone Kleptomaniac." I thought that the charachters were really well disrcipt. The camera didn't move and the transition from sounds was really good. I think that the flashes under helped me a lot understand the scenes. But, sometimes it wasn't nessesary. Something that no one did, and they did was making a good description of the charachters.

  8. I really liked the movie "The Phone Kleptomaniac" The soundtrack and the transitions were incredible, and the acting was also very good, Figo's expressions made the movie entertaining. The story in general was very good, they had a briliant idea of making a movie about a phone kleptomaniac, it's a easy topic and something enjoyable to watch. I could understand most of the movie, but I noticed that when Figo went to steal vicky's phone, he didn't actually get it. I'm not sure if this was purposely but I didn't quite understand it. Other than that, the movie was great.

  9. After watching all three movies my favourite movie one was, "The Mysterious Murder." I liked this one most because it was very creative and original. It also featured a chase seen something many people enjoy to watch including me. If I had to suggest something it would be to add more music to the scenes to give it certain atmosphere. Let me explain, when you transition between scenes it isn't all that smooth, my suggestion would be to change or add music when that occurs. Overall, you guys made a nice movie.

  10. I really liked the movie Phone Kleptomaniac. I really liked then songs and transitions they put in their movie. My favourite part was the ending because he was expelled because he stole one phone, but what the principal didn't know was that he had many other phones with him. Next time, I think they should take out all of the subtitles because we could understand everything perfectly. Something that I should do better next time is my evil laugh because it took 10 takes.

  11. I have seen all movies and have enjoyed them. Although there are some improvements to be made. In most movies, including mine, there are lots scenes to be trimmed and cut off. Most of the sound tracks are decent but not so much variety into them. My favourite movie would be "The Phone Kleptomaniac". I believe that was my favourite movie because it was straight to the point, with a easy to understand story and with a big surprise ending. I mean, who would imagine it!? In this specific movie, I think there were way to many subtitles, most of your scenes were already so easy to understand. Your subtitles were not necessary. In my movie, I would improve it by trimming scenes a bit more and not letting people steal my role, do it. I was the director and an actor and sometimes, while being the director, I would let people do my part. I believe that is my improvement. My goal would be to get scenes done faster and to stick with my role.

  12. The phone kleptomaniac's ending was really good because it when figo looked at the camera it added to how crazy he is, but it did have to many words in it when we could clearly understand without it you needed about just 3 of them. the cretic cards had a lot to improve upon because the camera was always shaking, in the scene when the kidnapper hit her was horribly made and the ending was really silly. But overall it had by far the best acting out of all of them. A personal goal is for me to take on two rolls and reach mastery on both.
