We managed to close the silent movie unit and these are the movies presented by both video classes. What do you think?

  1. I watched The Pencil. It was avery good silent comedy. They did a good job at over exaggerating when the pencil was lost. They also did a good job at picking the music. There are a couple of things that could be improved though. One thing that could be fixed is when the FBI was talking to Ms. Kagohara you couldn't tell that they were talking or that she gave them a pencil. You couldn't really see Ms. Kagohara at all. Also, when the FBI gave the pencils they found to the girl, the music started a little late. Although, overall it was a very good movie!

  2. I watched "God Is Great" since I was in DV2, we had a different topic, but with this movie I was able to get into it's mood. It was a very tragic movie and the actors and actresses were really able to express feelings with their bodies. I think what made it great was the variation of shots because it made it very appealing to the eye.

  3. I watched The Doritos Bet. It was a great silent movie in many aspects. I found the story entertaining and quite funny and the shots were spectacular. The one shot that I found was the best was the shot from behind Albin, showing the game and him eating the Doritos. The acting was also convincing. The one thing I would recommend is they should work on their continuity. This occurs in the beginning, while they are arguing over the Doritos, the bag suddenly appears in Nick's hand.

  4. I watched "The Pencil", by Martina, Juan, Bianca and Bruno. I really like it because of its story line. I think it's a very original idea to lose a pencil and call the FBI to help you find it. It added a kind of comedy to the film which made it more fun to watch. My favorite part was at the end, when the pencil is actually behind the paper. I think it teaches us a lesson that before you go crazy about things, look for the most obvious solutions. I also watched "Mistaken Identity" and was kind of confused by it. The story didn't really make sense, and I don't see the conflict and climax. It just has a guy walking for hours and then you see another guy saying he's a bulgar, and then the main character is just twitching and then he sits and a few hours later his dad comes and picks him up. Very confusing, definitely not a story. I think they kind of rushed it, but I know these guys didn't show their best, but it's not a bad movie, just confusing.

  5. I watched various movies, but the one that really called my attention was "The Pencil". I liked the humor in it a lot. I also liked the music, I thought it went well with the mood of the movie. The storyline was also very funny, and the plot twist at the end was completely unexpected. However, my favorite thing about the movie was how you infused a good life lesson into a comedy. If i'm not mistaken, the life lesson was "don't freak out about unimportant things". Another one that I watched was "Mistaken Identity". Unlike "The Pencil", I didn't find this movie to be a funny or as deep. I think that they should have changed the plot to make it more interesting, and also very the camera angles & music. If they did that, the movie would be very good.

  6. I watched the movie "The Pencil". I thought it was a pretty good, creative movie with a plot twist at the end. I think that they could have used their acting a little bit more wisely. When they found out that they lost the pencil, you could see the smile on their faces. However, I felt that the story line was very clear and I wasn't confused once while watching it. I think that they used the shots pretty wisely, mostly showing the actors faces. I especially liked the scene where they showed Martina going to the bathroom to wash her face and dry it. I could clearly understand what was happening and what she was feeling. There was one time where Martina accidentally revealed the pencil by pushing the pencil over with her hand. One think they could have done to ensure that this didn't happen was to film with the pencil not actually under the paper. This way, it wouldn't reveal itself if the paper fell or slide over. I also liked the close up at the end, where they showed the pencil.

  7. I watched "Doritos Bet". I really liked the idea of the silent movie. I liked the shots, specially the close-up shots in the beginning of the soccer match. The acting was very good, and I liked the black and white aspect. It matches very well the idea of a silent movie. The only thing I think they should have done better was, show the Doritos package being eaten by Albin in the beginning. Besides that, I loved and enjoyed this silent movie a lot. Great job!

  8. I watched "The Pencil" silent movie. I really like how they put the movie in fast motion, it helps the audience understand that they are worried about the pencil and they are looking fast for it. Also, it is very good how they exaggerated something that is so simple, and made it into a somewhat complex comedy. One thing they could improve is to face the camera ll times, for us to be able to see everything that is going on at that scene. For example, when they were getting the pencil from Ms.Kagohara, you couldn't really see when she gave the pencil and what was her reaction when she was asked for the pencil. Good job!

  9. I watched the movie " God is Great " and I thought it was really good. Even though it was a silent movie, it was clear that they were bullying the girl and that is why she attempted suicide. The expressions made by the actors were very good. Although , there was this scene when Cora falls down the stairs and she starts laughing , but overall the acting was very good. I also watched " Election Day " and I thought it had a good storyline , at the end of the movie you can clearly get the message that Gaetano lost the elections because of his skin color. Although , I think they should be careful about the scene that Rachel walks to the podium with her phone and the she starts reading papers , why did she have the phone ? Overall , I thought the muscic choice was good and it was a good movie.

  10. I watched the Doritos Bet and I liked how they filmed the scene where the thief was eating the Doritos, because we could se him eating while the others where playing for it.

  11. I watched Sneak Out. I really liked the movie. They had great transition and the music matched the character's feelings. What I think they could have done better is they could have shown what the characters said in the phone, because I didn't understand

  12. I saw all the movies on the blog, they were all very well filmed, but one that stood out at me was God is Great. This movie was very good because of the show of emotion through body language. Also, the plot of the movie was very good, although simple. Moreover, I loved the shot you got of the phone while the girl was texting her mom. Although the movie stood out at me, there was once scene that could have been done better. Around the second 43 of the movie, before the two bullies go up the stairs, you can see a person's head before the bullies went up the stairs. Even though it was hard to see, it caught my attention when I had the video in full screen. Next time it would be advised that you wait for your queue at the bottom of the stairs instead of the middle. Also, I know the movie is very sad, but the music was very repetitive, and the tune of the song was not loud enough to make the movie feel complete. Overall, the movie was great, and one of the best I saw.

  13. I watched God I great and I really enjoyed watching this movie. First of all, the music that was in this movie really matched and made it even more sad than it already was. Also, the acting was really good. Cora did a great job of playing sad while Jonathan and Giulia were great bullies. However, the greatest thing among all was the camera work. My favorite scene was when Cora committed suicide because it looked so real and there was obviously a lot of creativity put into that scene and the rest of the movie. Good job!

  14. I actually watched all the movies, but I would like to comment on "God is Great". I thought that the message was very strong and clear. The shots were used very wisely to match the mood. I especially thought that the way they made the scene in which the girl committed suicide. It was a extremely tough topic and I congratulate them for tackling that topic. On the other hand the movie "Election Day" was not as clear. I could not understand what the issue was and although the filming was good, I only got it on the end. I realize that it was smart of them to add the "Stop Racism" line in the end because clearly, the audience could not understand what it meant.

  15. I watched the pencil silent movie, an I like how it was black and white. making it black and white makes it look like a professional silent movie, and speeding it up reminds me of Charlie Chaplin, who is mostly known for making silent movies. Overall, this movie was great with all the Camera angles and special effects that were used.

  16. I watched the pencil silent movie and really liked it because of it reliableness because I lose my pencils all the time! And I just love how they made it funny because you can relate to the situation. Oe thing I think they can improve on is the props because the FBI jackets looked fake and a bit weird and flimsy. Overall good job!

  17. I watched the Election Day. What I found that was really good was the editing and filming in the beginning of the movie. The scene with the mirror and music was really well done. I feel that the concept behind was strange, given that an election is not decided by a debate, but by votes...Nonetheless, the message could have been clearer at the end. Furthermore, their were some shots were you saw that their was no one in the audience.

  18. I've watched Sneak Out, by Ellen, Dani, Sophia, Felipe, and Giovanna and they did a outstanding job in producing a movie that interacts the audience. The actors did a great job with lack of acting skills that could deliver as if the movie had a speaking. As a matter of fact, creating a silent movie is significantly difficult than a normal movie because actors should have a gifted skill to narrate the story as they act. I also, liked the shots they choose to use; used variety of shots, creating unique aspects.

  19. I watched the pencil and I thought it was very funny and interesting. I liked how they made it in fast forward. It made it funnier and also fun to watch. Another thing I thought was good was how they made it really exaggerated, and also the shots made sense and where interesting. One thing they could improve is in the beginning. They show the text too fast and people might not have time to read it.

  20. I watched The Pencil, and after looking through the different aspects of the story I was very pleased with the overall outcome. The first aspect of the story that came to mind when watching The Pencil was the great acting. I could really see the exaggerated acting coming from all the actors, making the short film a lot more enjoyable to watch. There was also a wide variety of shots, such as close ups and wide shots, making for a very original and interesting movie. A technique that has been used many times in many silent movies was used once again for this movie, and this was the speed increase. Like the rest of the aspects, this only made the short film funnier than what it already was. Overall, great job on the film!

  21. When I watched the movie God is Great the main two things that I noticed were the music choice and the shots. The music choice was great because as the movie progressed and the problem got worse, the song got more gloomy and tragic. I think that at first since it is sad and simple and it progresses into more deep notes it really sets the tone for the movie. The shots used were great, especially in the end when the character hangs herself. I like how it shows only the feet falling off the swing, but there was one problem, the character looked at the camera. Finally, I think that the title wasn't very clear. I would think that if God was great, these kind of things wouldn't happen and the bullies would be punished. I think that the title choice could have been better.
